About Us

Harbor Baptist Church was first organized as Victory Baptist Church by Claude York in the Fall of 1963. Following the death of Pastor York in April of 1964, the church called Walter Ziglar as Pastor the Fall of that same year. Under his leadership the church bought property on Wellingford Road in Hidden Valley. A new church building was constructed and Victory Baptist Church moved to the new facilities in 1969. Pastor Ziglar continued to lead the church until his resignation in November of 1974.

In January of 1975, Don Kisiah accepted the Pastorate of Victory Baptist Church. Under his leadership the church sold the building in Hidden Valley and purchased our current buildings and property. At that time it was decided to change the name from Victory Baptist Church to Harbor Baptist Church. The first services were held at 5801 Old Concord Road on Easter Sunday, March 30, 1975, with approximately 35 people present.

Following the resignation of Pastor Kisiah in September of 1980, Gary Tate was called as the second Pastor of Harbor Baptist Church. He continued as Pastor until the spring of 1983.

After the resignation of Pastor Tate, the church called Don McCollum as their Pastor. He preached his first service as Pastor on the first Sunday in July, 1983. It was during Pastor McCollums ministry that the remodeling of the church facilities was begun. Prior to his resignation in June 1992, the outside of the buildings were refurbished, a new vestibule was built connecting the office building to the auditorium, and the church completed phase one of the remodeling of the auditorium itself.

J. R. Farrington was called as the fourth Pastor of Harbor Baptist Church in November of 1992. He preached his first Sunday as Pastor on January 10, 1993. Under Pastor Farrington's leadership the church is organizing for its greatest growth. Through an aggressive, evangelistic outreach, the church is reaching hundreds for Christ each year. The remodeling of the facilities has continued with the Office Building, the Sunday School Wing, and the completion of the Auditorium remodeling. The desire of Harbor Baptist Church to reach people for Christ is seen through the emphasis on Soul-Winning, the Bus Ministry, and World-Wide Missions.

With God's help Harbor Baptist Church will continue to "Preach Jesus, the only sure harbor for your soul" until the Lord's return.
